Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Mohamad Rodzi Sulaiman was today charged in the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court with three counts of cheating involving RM299,400 two years ago.

He allegedly committed the offences during his tenure as the Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department director.

Mohamad Rodzi, 41, was jointly charged with senior technician, Samsu Tajuddin Mat Hussain, 36, with committing the offences at the Accountant-General's Department's Terengganu office on Dec 23 and 24, 2002.

According to Bernama , on the first charge, the duo allegedly cheated the department by confirming that work worth RM99,600 as listed in the government order form had been satisfactorily carried out when in fact the work was not satisfactory.

Judge Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim allowed bail of RM3,000 with one surety each, impounded their passports and fixed Oct 27 for mention to enable them to engage counsel.

The duo were also charged with cheating the same department in a similar manner by confirming on Dec 23 and Dec 24 that works worth RM99,800 and RM100,000 respectively had been done when one was not done at all and the other was unsatisfactory.

These two charges were heard before another judge, Zainal Azman Abdul Aziz, who allowed bail of RM3,000 with one surety each and fixed Oct 27 for mention.

Each of the three charges under section 11 (c) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 carries a jail term of 14 days to 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of graft involved.

Both Mohamad Rodzi and Samsu posted bail.
