Hisham assures Johor Umno of his support
Hishammuddin Hussein today gave assurance that he would continue supporting the Johor Umno's efforts and agenda in strengthening the party.
Hishammuddin, who is Umno vice-president and Sembrong Umno chief, said he had clearly heard the hopes that were voiced out by the Johor Umno liaison committee chairperson Mohamed Khaled Nordin in ensuring the survival of the party.
"Mohamed Khaled's leadership has always been consistent, orderly, firm and sincere in striving for further development of the party and the state," he said after the launch of Sembrong Umno delegates meeting by Mohamed Khaled in Kluang today.
'Solve domestic disputes'
Earlier, Mohamed Khaled ( photo ) in his speech, said Umno needs to solve all its domestic disputes to restore the grass roots' faith on the party and to ensure that Umno would remain relevant.
To do that, the Johor menteri besar he said all Umno leaders and members should first be true to themselves and admit that the largest Malay party was no longer in its best of shape.
"There is no Plan B for Umno except to reunite and intensify efforts to urge our leadership to make things straight for the sake of Umno.
"The longer we left the disputes unsolved, it will become cancerous for the party," he said.
As such, Mohamed Khaled said Johor Umno had also placed their faith in Hishammuddin, as Umno vice-president, to do what was right for Umno.
In Sungai Petani, Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron ( photo ) said Umno should accept the fact that the support for Umno was decreasing and that efforts must be taken to regain that support.
"It's better to just accept the fact that we are losing support than to be in denial, so that we can try to find the best possible way to improve ourselves," he told reporters after opening Sungai Petani Umno delegates meeting today.
Idris, who is also Umno supreme council member, said it was not a problem for Umno to regain that support as it had gone through worse times, including being banned.
He said what needed to be done was for Umno leaders and members to strive to make Umno the best choice for the Malays.
Right intentions
In Alor Setar, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir said Umno members who wanted to voice out their opinions should do so with the right intention, that is to strengthen the party, rather than with the intention to create disharmony among each other.
"They must do so with the right intention, that it solely to strengthen the party, and not purposely aimed at weakening or causing factions in the party," Mukhriz, who is also Kedah Umno liaison committee chairperswon, told reporters after opening the Kuala Kedah Umno delegates meeting.
He also urged Umno members in the state to intensify efforts to ensure that Kedah would remain to be under BN’s administration at the 14th general election.
