Election watchdog Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) is ready to meet inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar over the Bersih 4 rally scheduled for Aug 29.

Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah ( photo ) told Malaysiakini that they had requested to meet with the authorities in a letter sent yesterday to both the Bukit Aman f ederal police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

"We have sent and they have received on our letters requesting for a meeting," she said.

Earlier today, Khalid said he will be calling the Bersih 4.0 organiser to discuss about the planned mammoth rally.

The New Straits Times quoted Khalid as saying he had yet to receive any notification following  a press conference by the Bersih steering committee today confirming that rally will be held overnight at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

"I have not yet received any letter of notification of the gathering. Anyway, we will be calling them to discuss," Khalid was reported as saying.
