A political writer has urged former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to ‘zip lips’ and stop criticising his successor Najib Abdul Razak.

 

Syed Hussein Alattas said Mahathir had been prime minister for 22 years and he should stop talking, as he had failed because he could not better the lot of the Malays.

 

“Tell him (Mahathir) to zip his mouth. Tell him, Syed Hussein ( right ) has told Mahathir to shut up.

 

“He has said enough. For 22 years he has been prime minister, and he couldn’t do anything.

 

“He could not change the Malays. He failed. He is the biggest failure in Malaysian politics,” said Syed Hussein, who also goes by the moniker Pak Habib.

 

He said this during a press conference yesterday after launching the book ‘Dosa-dosa Che Det’ (Che Det’s Sins) at his residence in Janda Baik, Pahang.

 

Che Det was Mahathir’s pen name used previously in his newspaper column, and he now uses it for his blog.

Stop the political 'killing'

 

Meanwhile, Syed Hussein expressed sympathy for the embattled Najib for the numerous attacks against him.

 

“He (Najib) is a spoiled (manja) child, and never thought of becoming a prime minister.

 

“He was only lucky to have won all the posts that he contested in. Suddenly he gets attacked. Have pity on him,” he said.

 

The author of 76 books on politics also urged the public to give Najib a chance to rule the country.

 

He also asked Mahathir not to ‘kill’ Najib’s political career with his continued criticism.

 

“Enough with the people he has ‘killed’ before this. Spare the rest. Let Najib live a little longer. During Mahathir’s time, he decapitated everyone.

 

“Nevertheless, we must expose where Mahathir has gone overboard,’ he said.
