Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said has taken a swipe at the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's private bank accounts.

"Suddenly, there is a minister who says political donations are normal, then there are ministers who say depositing the sum in a private account is safer.

"After this, elected representatives would be rich, as political donations would be put into their own accounts.

"When MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) investigates, then only it is said the money is for the party," Ahmad ( photo ) told delegates at the Kemaman Umno division meet today.

The RM2.6 billion, which was deposited into the premier's accounts ahead of the last general election, is said to be donation from a Middle Eastern source.

This was also confirmed by MACC, which did not identify the donor.

'Work day and night'

Besides ribbing the donation, Ahmad also appe ared to mock Najib while commenting on his own removal as menteri besar last year.

"If the people of Terengganu demonstrated every day rejecting Mat Said or if I am corrupt, I would have accepted (my removal).

"But I work day and night for the state," he said.

There is mounting public pressure for Najib to quit with a mammoth Bersih 4.0 rally against the prime minister planned for Aug 29.

There have been at least four other protests this year calling for Najib to quit office.

The latest was the planned #TangkapNajib rally on Aug 1, which police cracked down upon before it could start.
