Street demonstrations are not the best way to show dissatisfaction with the government but instead, discussions through forums and dialogues are more orderly and focused.

Malaysia Islamic Organisations Consultative Council (Mapim) president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid described the 'street voices' as being more detrimental to the nation while there were other better ways to voice their opinions.

He said the parties involved in street demonstrations probably had their own objectives but such actions were more inclined to emotional displays.

He added that Mapim and several other non-governmental organisations (NGO) had agreed to organise a 'People's Congress: Building a Prosperous Nation' which is a forum to discuss current issues and problems from the view of the people.

"The People's Congress on Sept 12 will be a platform for the people to discuss ideas on issues such as politics, economics, society and others," he said.

"This way, we will avoid street actions because forums or dialogues are seen as more serious in conveying the wishes of the people as compared to going to the streets," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Mohd Azmi also said discussions and the consensus of the people in the forum would be presented to the relevant ministers in a memorandum so that appropriate action could be taken.

"We will also be following-up on the memorandum which we send so that action is taken as what we send is from the people and for the people as well as the good of the nation," he said.
