DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke has accused Najib Abdul Razak's supporters of abusing Islam to paper over the scandal involving RM2.6 billion deposited into prime minister's personal bank accounts.

This was after Najib's men gave varying accounts on the presence of the money.

"I want to ask Umno leaders whether they realised they are displaying limitless stupidity in their race to save and defend Najib in the ‘RM2.6 billion in his personal account’ issue.

"More so, Umno leaders appear shameless in using Islam to legitimise the RM2.6 billion ... supposedly used to defend Islam," said Loke, who is also Seremban MP.

Loke was referring to Sri Gading Umno division chief Abdul Aziz Kaprawi who today claimed the cash donation was meant to fight the "Jewish-funded" DAP, and Kuantan Umno division chief Wan Adnan Wan Mamat who claimed the funds was an acknowledgment for Malaysia's effort in combating the Islamic State.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president, repeated the ‘Islamic State’ argument today in justifying the funds.

RM2.6b to fight DAP in two seats?

Loke also rubbished claims that DAP received funding from Jewish or other sources.

He added that if this were true, Umno would have used it as ammunition to attack DAP at the 13th General Election.

He further pointed out that DAP only contested against Umno in two parliamentary seats in the last general election, questioning how then would Umno fight DAP with the RM2.6 billion.

"For record, DAP only faced Umno in two parliamentary seats which is Gelang Patah (in Johor) and Sepanggar (in Sabah) in the 13th general election.

"Does Umno need RM2.6 billion to fight DAP in two parliamentary seats?” he asked.

"And even if DAP won all of the 51 out of the 222 parliamentary seats, it would be impossible for DAP to form the government on its own," he said.
