Haze back at unhealthy levels in Sarawak

Another area, Sarikei, recorded an unhealthy air pollution level in Sarawak today together with Kuching, Sri Aman and Samarahan with the Air Pollution Index (API) exceeding 100.

The API reading in Sarikei began to surpass the 100 level at 8am, and until 12 noon the reading was 104, while the other areas began to record readings of above 100 since yesterday and remained at the unhealthy API level up to 12pm today.

According to the official portal of the Department of Environment (DOE), Sri Aman had the highest API reading up to 12 noon today, surpassing 129, followed by Samarahan (128), and Kuching (119).

Based on the figures recorded by the portal every hour, only Sarawak was experiencing the haze currently.

Meanwhile, four major towns in Sabah recorded moderate air pollutant index (API) readings as of 9am today.

The Environment Department stated in its website that the API reading for Tawau was 59, while Kota Kinabalu was 56, Keningau, 53 and Sandakan, 51.

Duty-free island Labuan recorded an API reading of 75.

An API reading at between 0 and 50 is good; 51 and 100 (moderate); 101 and 200 (unhealthy); 201 and 300 (very unhealthy); and more than 301 (hazardous).
