No fake eggs in local market, says farmers’ group
There are no fake eggs in the local market, said president of the Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Association of Malaysia, Jeffrey Ng Choon Ngee.
He said it was impossible for anyone to produce fake eggs on a commercial scale as it was costly and required sophisticated technology, especially to produce the egg membrane.
“Roughly, the cost of producing a fake egg is RM1. The membrane alone can cost 30 sen. At that cost, what can the price of an egg be?” he said when met after a media conference on ‘Livestock Asia 2015' exposition in Putrajaya today.
He was asked on postings on the social media which had drawn concern among consumers on the presence of fake eggs.
The federation, he said, had also checked with the authorities on livestock rearing in China and was told that there was also no fake eggs in the contry.
Livestock Asia 2015 will be held from Sept 21-23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
It involves the participation of 32 exhibitionists from 32 countries, including United Kingdom, United States of America, Taiwan and Thailand.
