Umno Youth will meet party president Najib Abdul Razak and new Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss motions from Umno Youth wings including one for the prime minister to take a leave of absence over the political funding issue and 1MDB.

Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said although the motion by the Gelang Patah Umno division for Najib to take was only an emergency motion, they will present it to the PM as well.

"That motion did not came from the youth but it was an emergency motion. We will tell the president that. But it will brought it to him as well.

"These motions on political funding and 1MDB are not only being discussed among Umno Youth but also by the people and youth outside of Umno.

As a wing which acts as the voice for young people, it is our job and responsibility to convey the perspective and perception of the youth to the party," Khairy told a press conference at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khairy also said the divisions' motion would not be filtered or censored and will be discussed fully in order for the top leadership to respond on matters plaguing both party and government.

However he said he will not comment on the motions before meeting the Umno president.

"Wait until I have discussed with the president," he said.

On Aug 14, the Semporna Umno Youth passed three motions which stirred controversy for Najib.

Won't be filtered

The three motions demanded that the 18-month postponement of the Umno polls be rescinded and elections be held as scheduled next year; calling for Najib to go on leave and the third, for the 1MDB issue to be dealt with in a transparent manner.

Khairy said it was important for these matters to be solved as it would help the party regain trust after being criticised by the people and the grassroots.

"The issues won't be filtered as they all come as motions (from the youth wings). The top leadership will implement what is necessary to regain the people's trust in Umno," he said.

Khairy said although the date of Umno Youth's meeting with Najib has yet to be decided, it was likely be held after the supreme council meeting slated for early next month, after all 191 Umno divisions have finished their annual general meetings.

"We have requested for a meeting with them both but it will only be after the Umno supreme council has their meeting,” he said.
