'Does Guan Eng want Merdeka Day violence?'
Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee questioned whether Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng wanted violence during the coming Merdeka celebrations.
This was after Lim said the state government would use 'Bersih, Cekap, Amanah' as its Merdeka Day theme, seen as a reference to the upcoming Bersih 4.0 rally against the government.
"Is Guan Eng egging for confrontation and violence during the Merdeka celebrations to further his own political ambition?" asked Syed Ali in a blog posting today.
Syed Ali ( photo ) accused Lim of trying to introduce 'divisive elements' into the Merdeka Day celebrations, calling this 'totally unbecoming and aggressive'.
"This is not a big surprise given the fact that the chief minister has acted in typical DAP style of being rude, disrespectful and in-your-face," he said.
He reminded Lim that Penang was part of Malaysia and the spirit of Merdeka was the same throughout the federation.
"And someone definitely needs to teach Guan Eng to respect our forefathers who fought for independence instead of trying to create a slur on that day, a day which brings all of us together as one nation," wrote Syed Ali.
Lim yesterday backtracked and announced that Penang will follow the federal government's set theme of 'Sehati, Sejiwa' (One heart, One soul) following Putrajaya's threats to boycott the state's Merdeka Day parade.
