Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has included his younger brother Nazir in the Special Economic Committee to deal with the current economic crisis.

He was among nine people appointed to the committee. The committee will be headed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar.

Other members of the committee includes Khazanah Nasional Bhd deputy chairperson Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Azman Mokhtar, Maybank CEO Farid Alias, RAM Holdings ECO K Govindan and Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor Noor Azlan Ghazali.

Najib explained that the committee's task is to reduce any global impact on the national economy, in face of global economic uncertainties.

"This includes, current issues like the value of the Ringgit, maintaining market stability and strengthening confidence in capital markets."

The Ringgit has hit a record low over the past week against major currencies.
