The Barisan Alternatif candidate for Lunas is Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, reverting to the original decision despite DAP's S Neelamekan being flagged off as a substitute over the weekend.

After a two-hour meeting ending at 3.30pm today, a reliable source close to the BA leadership confirmed the decision, ending what seemed another crisis threatening to disrupt the four-member opposition coalition.

However, the official announcement will only be made at 9pm tonight at a ceramah at Keadilan's election centre in Lunas town, said the source.

The previous decision favouring DAP over Keadilan has led to the latter's vice-president Tian Chua handing in his resignation to party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Saturday.

Chua, when contacted by malaysiakini earlier today, declined to comment beyond saying: "Yes, I have tendered in my resignation but it is still up to the party whether to accept it or not."

"As vice-president, I cannot (but try) to put forward my party's interest and to make sure that the best candidate fielded would put up a good fight," he said.

Malaysiakini also learnt that Chua is likely to retract his resignation following the latest development.
