Anwar Ibrahim's application to call retired commercial crime investigation department director, Ramli Yusuff, to testify will be heard at the Federal Court on Nov 16.

This is part of Anwar's attempt for a review of his Sodomy II conviction and five-year sentence on Feb 10 this year.

A case management of the review application and the bid to call Ramli is also fixed on Oct 26.

Anwar's lawyer Shahid Adli Kamaruddin, when contacted, confirmed with Malaysiakini, following case management today.

Ramli was CID deputy director in 1998 when Anwar ( photo ) was arrested from his home and placed in Bukit Aman, soon after being sacked.

During the detention, then inspector-general of police Abdul Rahim Noor had assaulted the former deputy prime minister in what is referred to as the infamous ‘black eye’ incident.

Ramli had stopped Rahim from assaulting Anwar further.

On June 10, Anwar applied for Ramli be called as he argued there was a political conspiracy against him dating back from the black eye incident and the Sodomy I trial which came after.

Ramli had testified on May 27, in his lawyer friend Rosli Dahlan's suit against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, that he was then asked by former IGP Musa Hassan, who was then the deputy director of CID (legal and prosecution), to fabricate evidence in 1998.

Anwar applied for a review of his conviction and sentence on April 30.
