Nur Jazlan wins 'New Sexist On The Block' title
Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamad has been awarded the 'New Sexist On The Block' title by Wanita PKR.
This follows his remarks that bumiputera policies have to be maintained because Malays make a lot of babies.
"In commenting that Malaysia cannot run away from racial politics due to demographic changes caused by the higher fertility rate of the Malays, Nur Jazlan just earned himself the 'New Sexist On the Block' Award," an irate Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said in a statement today.
"Question to Nur Jazlan: Do Malay women have to stop giving birth just to stop racial policies?" she asked.
In an interview with The Malay Mail Online , Nur Jazlan said it was difficult to run away from race politics due to demographic factors primarily driv en by the higher Malay fertility rate.
Zuraida ( photo ) lamented that such thinking was the by-product of having too many men in politics, adding this can be remedied by having more women in parliament.
"Most of the present lawmakers are Umno men. They make the law and then they blame the women. How clever is that?
"This is precisely the reason why we need to vote in more women MPs so that the laws are favourable to us," she said.
'Fail with capital F'
The Ampang MP also slammed the need for racial policies in the first place, saying that such policies implemented by Umno have failed terribly.
"Fail with a capital 'F'. In the 58 years that Umno ruled, how much impact have they had except for racial indoctrination for which the Malays now think that subsidies are obligatory?" she noted.
She said not only are racial policies ineffective, but they will also cause resentment among Malaysians and hinder unity.
As such, she called on the people to support the opposition and vote them into Putrajaya.
This, she said, will usher in inclusive policies based on needs rather than on ethnicity.
