Fearing problems, 'Suara Bumiputera' rally cancelled
The 'Suara Bumiputera' rally slated for this weekend has been cancelled due to concerns over possible untoward incidents as it coincides with Bersih 4.
"The action committee held a meeting last night and agreed to call off the gathering scheduled for Aug 29 and 30 in front of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur," its chairperson Zulkarnain Mahdar told Malaysiakini .
Zulkarnain said while he respects the demands made by Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, he however does not support the rally.
He believes the rally would not benefit the people and cause a loss of income for businesses in the capital.
"We will respect the demands made by Bersih as a democratic practice.
"I do not support the rally, but I respect the demands of the people, not only that of Bersih. I just do not wish to see some parties incurring losses," he said.
Furthermore, Zaulkarnain ( on the left in photo ) said all Malaysians have the right to make demands for the betterment of the nation.
He added that his group would also put forth its demands to the government regarding the future of the bumiputera.
The group will hold a launching ceremony for "Himpunan Suara Bumiputera" at Hotel Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning.
Apart from this, Suara Bumiputera will also hold nationwide briefing sessions.
When the gathering is held, the organiser expects a turnout of between 200,000 and 500,000 and a total of 50 demands would be submitted to the government.
The demands would be on issues related to religion, education and economy.
