Public transport services in the capital such as the light rail transit (LRT), monorail, and city buses run by Rapid KL will be extended until 1am on Sunday to allow the public to celebrate the National Day 2015 eve.

According to Rapid KL spokesperson Lim Chin Aun, three LRT stations - namely Masjid Jamek, KLCC, and Bandaraya and the Medan Tuanku Monorail station - would continue to operate until 1am on that day.

"Although the entrance gates of the other stations will be closed in stages beginning at 11.10pm according to the normal weekend and public holiday schedule, passengers using the LRT and monorail service at the four stations involved can still exit at any station until the end of the service extension time," he said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur today.

Lim said all other LRT and monorail services were expected to operate as usual from Aug 28 to 31.

In addition to the LRT and monorail services, Rapid KL buses connecting the city to several housing estates would also continue its services until 1am on the day, he said.

He said the bus routes involved were U6 (Jalan Munsyi Abdullah-Taman Jasa Utama), U23 (Lebuh Ampang-Taman Melawati), U30 (Lebuh Ampang-Pandan Mewah), U40 (Jalan Silang-Terminal Kajang), U64 (Pasar Seni-Taman Sri Muda), U66 (Pasar Seni-Taman Medan), U68 (Pasar Seni-Taman Sri Manja/Taman Sri Sentosa), U70 (Pasar Seni-Puchong Prima), U88 (Pasar Seni-Kota Damansara) and U224 (Pasar Seni-Taman Dato' Senu).

"However, bus services including those on the threshold of the National Day would depend on the guidance of the police, as several roads in the city of Kuala Lumpur will be closed gradually to give way to the rehearsal and the 2015 National Day celebrations," he said.
