PM: Bersih participants 'poor' in patriotism

Basically: On the contrary, PM Najib Razak, Bersih protesters are the true patriots, sacrificing their weekend to sweat it out and risking harassment to call for a better Malaysia as your poor leadership drags our economy to the dumps.

The ringgit is now RM3 to S$1 when it was on par with the Singaporean dollar 20 years ago, and at RM2.50 to S$1 just half a year ago.

Who is the unpatriotic one? The one who does a rotten job but refuses to leave it to someone more capable, or Bersih supporters?

Gunnerrun: Maybe during the colonial days, the mission was to get rid of the colonial masters and mind you, it wasn't just the effort of Umno alone that they left in the end.

Today, our fight is slightly different. We, the people, want to stop being oppressed by our own government who controls practically everything and when they have absolute power, they stab us hard in the back and quietly cart off whatever they have been looting.

This is patriotism - seeking independence from being discriminated against, bullied, and preventing gross mismanagement of the highest kind.

StraightTalk: Can the premier explain what true patriotism is?

Does he think that a government led by leaders who are uncouth, not transparent and blatantly not accountable, are more patriotic than the rakyat who wants clean and honest politicians to lead this nation?

Patriot1: Mr PM, you've got it all wrong. People are doing this under threat of arrest, possible bodily harm, because of their patriotism to save the country.

Rukiman: Bersih wants a clean government. Who doesn’t? Bersih wants free and fair elections? Everyone does. Bersih wants to save the economy? How? By having a T-shirt sale?

Go ahead with your rally to prove your “no confidence motion of the people”, by all means.

The time for symbolic action is over. Malaysians want something more concrete than just marching on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, facing down barricades and tear gas, just for the purpose of having a story or two to tell or write.

What we all need is concrete action and plans. If Bersih insists on saying this rally will save the next generation, care to explain how?

How will this rally, which saw tens of thousands of Malaysians camped out for two days during the weekend, lead to free and fair elections, stop gerrymandering or even “save the economy”?

Iiiizzzziiii: The double-edged sword cuts both ways. Patriotism means different things to different people. Take Najib for example; he loves the country so much that he refuses to step down after a political donation of RM2.6 billion ended up in his private accounts.

On the other hand, out of love and patriotism for the country, a group of people from all walks of life are calling for Najib to resign over his alleged corruption in the political donation.

Justice Pao: Two score and eighteen years, our forefathers have built the country and it took Najib only about two years to either 'sell' the country to an Arab 'donor' or destroy the economy of the country that will result in Malaysia being a failed state.

The true patriots are therefore those who expose, challenge and bring down Najib and his cohorts before it is too late.

Hang BerTuah: Honestly, many Malays dislike BN and Najib but the majority of them don’t support Bersih 4 because the organiser is a backer of LGBT (lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender community) and ‘murtad’ (apostasy) rights.

Speaking Sense: Yes, did people fight for the country so that its leaders can be irreparably corrupt and oppressive?

Jesse: Najib still doesn't get it. It is not a simple matter of differences of opinion. It is about a leader entrusted to run the nation. Instead he allegedly steals from the people and refuses to account for it.

The nation is still waiting for a credible answer to these questions - where the money came from and where it has gone. Even if it went into his pocket, we want to know.

Pahatian: Yes, the organisers and participants of Bersih 4 are poor in patriotism. The PM is the greatest patriot thus far.

Which PM in Malaysia and the world at large, can manage to get a donation of RM2.6 billion from the Arabs without any strings attached?

Anonymous 5783290: Respectfully, I think you are wrong, Mr PM. Our youth of all races, joined together this weekend on a mission of love for the country and symbolically want to clean up the country of corrupt politicians who use the resources of the nation to enrich themselves.

Is it unpatriotic to send a message to corrupt politicians to mend their ways? If they are unpatriotic, they would not care about the country and would not have come out and sacrificed their weekend.

Truth: Najib is so wrong. Bersih is about freedom from corruption. I bet our freedom fighters and martyrs would have fought the same battle.

Don't let their blood, sweat and tears be in vain. Honour it by fighting to remove corrupt leaders.
