Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has complained that people posing as Islamic preachers (tabligh) are trying to shift voters into his constituency.

"They go to houses not to bring Islamic teachings but instead, ask homeowners to allow for their addresses to be used by outsiders to become voters in Putrajaya," he told journalists after a function in the administrative capital today.

Tengku Adnan, who is also the Federal Territories Minister, said the group's activities started some six months ago.

He added that it was strange that some were women, despite tabligh groups usually made up of men.

"They also spread slanderous propaganda about our leaders and I have personally tracked them down," said Tengku Adnan.

Tengku Adnan did not point fingers at any specific quarters but said a "political party" was behind these activities.

In light of this, Tengku Adnan said he had informed the Election Commission on the matter and also asked residents in Putrajaya to be vigilant.

"If they continue their activities, I will not hesitate to lodge a police report," he said.

Tengku Adnan defeated PAS' Husam Musa in Putrajaya by a 5,541 vote majority in the 13th general election in 2013.

He had garnered 9,943 votes as opposed to Husam's 4,402 votes.
