Parti Kedilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Tian Chua claimed that he was assaulted by the police and airport security officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport this morning.

He said that about five people allegedly dragged him to the middle of the road outside the airport, beat him and stepped on his glasses.

Chua, who was in the airport to receive former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, said he has reached the arrival hall early and tried to negotiate with the police to allow other supporters to come in.

"I tried to talk with them to allow a small number of supporters who were still barred from getting into the arrival hall. They were angry and didn't allow me to go back to the arrival hall," he said.

"Then they pushed me outside the airport and several of them beat me up and stepped on my glasses" he claimed.

'Push' the police line

He said he would lodge a police report tomorrow as "I have other important things to attend to following Anwar's return".

Chua, together with PKR supreme council member N Gobalakrishan led a group of supporters to 'push' the police line in order to enter the arrival hall.

"I do not understand why there is such heavy police presence. The gathering was a colourful and cheerful event to receive a friend," he said, adding that when he arrived at about 6.20am, the airport was sealed.

Meanwhile, Selangor Chief Police Officer Mohd Fauzi Sa'ari denied that Chua was assaulted by security personnel at the airport.

"They just wanted to shut him out of the airport because he was misbehaving," he said, stressing that no police officers were involved.
