DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has challenged the MCA to raise in the cabinet the issue of the Sept 16 red-shirt ‘Malay Dignity’ rally in Kuala Lumpur.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai has strongly opposed the rally, saying that it would threaten racial harmony.

Lim urged Liow to stop the rally from taking place if he was really committed to racial harmony.

“If he cannot raise the matter in the cabinet, then MCA is just playing games. The rakyat does not want games, we want a solution,” Lim said in Penang today.

Lim said the gathering by Umno and Malay NGOs to support Prime Minister Najib Razak could be allowed to go on if it were peaceful.

However, the rally is seen to be threatening racial violence especially in its posters and banners, which were blatantly against the Chinese community, Lim added.

He continued to condemn Liow for deploying “dirty tactics” like Umno and its newspaper Utusan Malaysia for playing with racial issues and even blaming the DAP for being involved in the organising of the Bersih rally on Aug 29 and 30.

Liow had earlier blamed the DAP for spreading racial hatred, linking the party to the incident of two participants stomping on photos of Najib and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

'No hope for rakyat'

Lim also chided MCA for supporting Najib, BN and Umno despite the 1MDB crisis.

He referred to the resignation of the company’s adviser Abu Samah Alias, saying there was no hope for the rakyat to know the truth behind the claims of corruption in 1MDB, since even a federal-appointed official could not access information related to the scandal.

“MCA leaders are traitors, they have no principles and integrity as they seem to support corrupt leaders,” alleged the Penang chief minister.

“They are just out to protect their ministerial posts, for these they are willing to sell out, support BN and Umno, and see the country economy worsen,” Lim claimed.

The gigantic Bersih rally, among others, called for Najib’s ( photo ) resignation over the 1MDB financial scandal and the mysterious RM2.6 billion donation in his private bank accounts.

Lim said the gathering was not about race, but about questionable donations and the country’s failing economy due to the alleged 1MDB financial problems.

“I want to warn the MCA, if they continue to play with racial sentiments, they have to be responsible for everything that happens after this, including the red-shirt rally on Sept 16,” Lim asserted.
