On May 11, 2008, Melanau Jill Ireland clerk flew in from Indonesia with eight Christian CDs bearing titles such as ‘Cara Hidup Dalam Kerajaan Allah’, ‘Hidup Benar Dalam Kerajaan Allah’ and ‘Ibadah Yang Benar Dalam Kerajaan Allah’.

All the CDs were seized from Ireland upon her arrival at the Low-Cost CarriersTerminal (LCCT) at Sepang.

Today, her lawyer Annou Xavier obtained the eight CDs back, following a Court of Appeal decision and also a Home Ministry's letter, dated Sept 2, to Xavier saying the CDs can be picked up from tomorrow, duirng office hours.

Accompanied by National Evangelical Christian Fellowship executive secretary Alfred Tais and Sidang Injil Borneo Peninsular secretary-general Jasme Dairis, they received the CDs at the Home Ministry office at the KL International Airport (KLIA) about 12.15pm today.

Tais said the seizure should not have been made in the first place, and they are glad that the CDs have been returned.

The Court of Appeal in the unanimous decision upheld the order of the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to the Home Ministry to return the CDs.

Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat had said the Customs Department acted ultra vires (beyond the law) on Section 9 of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

"The order to seize the CDs was not envisaged by Parliament. The order was issued by the Customs Department's Suzanah Muin, who was not empowered to make the order,” Justice Tengku Maimun ruled when ordering the return of the CDs.

The KL High Court had on July 21, ordered the return of the CDs but the Home Ministry appealed the decision.

The case took a long time for it to be heard, with the courts awaiting the decision on the case of the Catholic Church vs the Home Ministry on the use of the word Allah in the Bahasa Malaysia publication of the Catholic weekly journal the Herald.
