Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) will host a multimedia and slide show presentation on the plight and struggle of the Palestinians this Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.

JIM executive committee members said the presentation is aimed at informing the public and moving them to become involved in activism for the cause of Palestine.

Azhari Abdul Kadir, chairperson of the event's organising committee, told malaysiakini that the presentation was scheduled in the month of Ramadhan to remind Muslims that the fasting month was synonymous with sacrifice and struggle.

"Ramadhan is a month of blessings, purification and jihad. Remember that many wars in Islam occurred during Ramadhan, such as the famed Battle of Badr (623 CE).

"We hope that people's spiritual awareness will be heightened by seeing the jihad of the Palestinians against the Zionists of Israel," he said when contacted.

Raise funds

Entitled ' Malam Sumbangan Kasih Palestine ', the event will take place at Anjung Rahmat along Jalan Gombak. It will also help raise funds for JIM's Fund for Palestine.

"The fund's first purpose is to collect money for the Kuwait-based Palestine Charity Committee, which provides help for widows and orphans in Palestine as well as look after the children's educational needs. The Palestine Charity Committee also channels money for the reconstruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem," said Azhari.

"Secondly, the fund will also serve to finance local activism and advocacy programmes for Palestinians within Malaysia," he added.

Deputy chairperson of the organising committee Mohd Yusuf Ahmad said in addition to the dinner-presentation, JIM has planned a number of programmes and events for the Palestinian cause over the span of the next three to four years.

"These include programmes that JIM hopes would be involve the participation of political parties as well as Malaysian and foreign NGOs that are active and helping the Palestinians," he added.
