Search for 7 missing Orang Asli pupils to focus on rivers, open areas
The search and rescue operation (SAR) to locate the seven missing orang asli pupils will focus on rivers and open plain areas.
Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (operations management) chief, Mohd Nurizwan Basri said the search area had been widened to a radius of 80km.
"Areas such as rivers and open plains are those which people would usually head towards when they are lost.
"We also use methods such as vertical search technique, group search, and others to locate them.
"Aerial search using helicopters is a bit tough because of the thick and unexplored forest," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
On Aug 23, six orang asli girls and a boy, aged between seven and 11, from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tohoi in Gua Musang, Kelantan were reported missing.
They were believed to have run away from the school hostel for fear of punishment from their teacher after they were caught swimming in a river without permission.
