Gerakan to submit memo on political funding law
Gerakan will be presenting a memorandum on the proposal to improve regulations and legislation on political funding to the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP) in two weeks’ time.
Its president Mah Siew Keong said the party had conducted a one-month study by looking at comparisons among developed countries such as the United States and United Kingdom on the ways to implement suitable regulations in this country.
"Among the proposals are to limit the amount of donation contributed by one organisation so that it would not create negative peception that the organisation could control the decision-making of a political party.
"Therefore, Gerakan hopes the regulations and laws on political funding can be enforced before the 14th general election," he told reporters after opening a Selangor Gerakan meeting in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
On Aug 14, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced the establishment of JKNMPP which will be chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low Seng Kuan with the aim of formulating a political funding action plan of integrity that is comprehensive and inclusive.
