Amanah to mufti: Is red shirts rally 'haram' too?
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has urged Kelantan mufti Muhammad Shukri Mohamed to state his stand on the red shirt rally tomorrow.
Penang Amanah pro-tem committee chairperson Mujahid Yusof Rawa asked if Muhammad condemned or condoned the gathering at Padang Merbok.
Mujahid said PAS previously opposed Bersih 4 on Aug 29 and 30 in Kuala Lumpur and the mufti himself reportedly said the rally was 'haram' or forbidden in Islam.
"Is he as firm with the red shirts or does he condone it?" asked the Parit Buntar MP.
"The ulama must make a stand on racial slurs and provocations like burning of effigies of national leaders and offensive posters," he said.
"I do not think any ulama would allow this to happen," he added, after launching the Penang Amanah chapter in Bayan Lepas, where 57 PAS members quit their party to join Amanah.
Mujahid said the ulama must make a strong stand that such acts are not the way of Malaysians, nor an acceptable trend for the country's political future.
"How come there are no fatwa (religious edicts) on the red shirt rally? Aren't they also inciting hatred and racism with the impending rally tomorrow?" he asked.
‘Shaming the community’
Tomorrow’s rally was mooted as a counter to Bersih 4, which saw participants stomping on images of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Following this, images and posters were circulated warning the Chinese of a bloodbath.
However, the organiser re-branded the rally, and invited Malaysians of all races to participate.
On Sunday, Kota Baru Umno division torched the effigies of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and his father Lim Kit Siang.
Condemning the incident, Mujahid described it as "uncivilised, and an ultimate shame to the Malay community".
He also criticised the act of stomping on Najib and Hadi's photos, saying it was uncalled for.
"Those who burnt the effigies are supposed to be defending the Malays but in actual fact have destroyed the image of the community,” he added.
