Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is unfazed with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s latest remarks that the party members are "traitors" and "worse than enemies".

Vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said that Amanah is more interested in forming a new opposition pact with like-minded allies, as Pakatan 2.0 is vital.

Opposition supporters, too, he added, were more interested in seeing the new pact work.

They also want the new political allies to put aside their ego for the bigger objective of having a strong and united front.

He reminded the party’s detractors that Amanah, which was launched on Malaysia Day, is a recognised political party with a sizeable supporter and member base.

“The rakyat is not interested in our grudges or our squabbles, they want to see Pakatan 2.0 in action,” Mujahid told Malaysiakini , when asked to respond to Hadi’s scathing remark.

“What Hadi feels about these traitors is so tiny compared to the bigger objective we are working towards for the sake of the people,” added the Parit Buntar MP.

“Selflessness is the name of the game, not selfishness,” quipped Amanah’s Penang pro-tem committee chief.

'Fighting a corrupt regime, not each other'

Asked how Amanah members would feel about being called traitors, Mujahid shot back, “We think that dismantling promises made earlier to the rakyat is more traitorous”.

On Hadi’s apparent war with Amanah, as PAS' former leaders quit the party to form the new entity, Mujahid said it takes two to clap.

“We are not tangoing to his tune. We have just offered anyone, including PAS, who is interested in seeing a strong and united opposition, to work together.

“We are not at war with PAS or PKR or DAP; we are at war with a corrupt regime.

Hadi, via a video speech posted on PAS’ Facebook yesterday, said without mentioning names, that the party which has been set up is one that has betrayed the Islamic struggle.

He added that those who betrayed the struggle have no choice whether to return or be eliminated.

"This is how the Islamic struggle works. It is impossible for us to be with one who has a record of betraying the struggle,” he had said.

He was apparently responding to developments within the opposition pact where PKR and Amanah had said it was willing to work with PAS, while DAP has remained firm in disassociating itself from PAS.

Asked in Penang, Chief Minister cum DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he wants to stay out of that debate.

“I do not want to be dragged into the polemics of the matter,” he said when asked by reporters.
