Air quality unhealthy in some places in Johor, Sarawak

The haze, brought on mainly by winds blowing from Indonesia, turned air quality unhealthy in three places in the country as of 9am today.

The website of the Department of Environment reported the air pollutant index (API) in Pasir Gudang, Johor, to be 118; Larkin Lama, also Johor, 117, and Samarahan, Sarawak, 108.

The air quality was moderate is 41 other places, among them Sarikei (9 ) and Kuching (98) in Sarawak, Tawau (82) in Sabah, Kota Tinggi in Johor (95), Shah Alam in Selangor (85), Kemaman in Terengganu (84) and Malacca (83).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.

The public can refer to the DOE website for the API readings.
