The fine weather in the morning enabled Muslims to undertake the sacrificial slaughter at mosques, surau, villages and housing estates.
Roads in Kuala Lumpur were almost clear of traffic as many people have returned to their villages and hometowns to celebrate the festival.
At the National Mosque, about 10,000 worshippers, among them foreign nationals, attended Aidiladha prayers and listened to a sermon delivered by Grand ImamSyaikh Ismail Muhammad.
Syaikh Ismail said he hoped that relatives of the pilgrims who died in the crane collapse incident in Makkah on Sept 11 would be brave in facing the loss of their loved ones in the tragedy.
In Alor Star, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah performed Aidiladha prayers at the Zahir Mosque.
They arrived at the mosque at 8.40am and were greeted by senior state government officers. The prayers were led by the Grand Imam of the mosque, Syeikh Roslan Abdul Halim.
Kedah Council of Regency member, Tunku Panglima Besar of Kedah Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz Sultan Abdul Halim, and state secretary Mohd Puat Ali also attended the event.
'Learn from the ritual of sacrifice'
In Kota Baru, about 2,000 Muslims joined the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan,Tengku Muhammad Rizam Tengku Aziz, for prayers at the Muhammadi Mosque.
State Mufti Mohamad Shukri Mohamad, in his sermon, urged Muslims to learn from the ritual of sacrifice to strengthen solidarity.
In Kuala Terengganu, Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman attended Aidil Adha prayers together with about 1,000 worshippers at the Kampung Seberang Takir Mosque.
Ahmad Razif, who is the Seberang Takir assemblyperson, and the local people slaughtered a cow for the sacrifice ritual.
In Ipoh, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah attended Aidil Adha prayers at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mosque in Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi.
The Raja Muda, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa; the Raja Di-Hilir, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and Menteri Besar Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir also attended the prayers.
The Sultan and the Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, then attended the Aidil Adha celebration at the Istana Cempaka Sari in Ipoh.
In Johor Baru, Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar attended Aidil Adha prayers along with almost 1,000 Muslims at the Pasir Pelangi Mosque.
He arrived at 8.20am accompanied by the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim; Tunku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar; Tunku Panglima Johor, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Putera Johor, Tunku Abu Bakar.
The sultan and his entourage were greeted on arrival by Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin; State Secretary Ismail Karim; Johor Islamic Religious Council adviser Noh Gadut and state executive council members.
In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Juhar Mahiruddin and his wife Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni attended Aidil Adha prayers with more than 5,000 Muslims at the State Mosque.
The prayers were led by Ustaz Saidin Albab while the Grand Imam, Ibrahim Qisab, delivered a sermon.
In Malacca, Yang Dipertua Negeri Mohd Khalil Yaakob and Chief Minister Idris Haron performed Aidiladha prayers at the Al-Azim Mosque with about 10,000 worshippers.
Mohd Khalil and Idris later attended the sacrificial slaughter of animals at the Al-Faizin Mosque, Paya Mengkuang, Bukit Rambai, and helped to distribute the meat to the public.
In Penang, Yang Dipertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas attended Aidil Adha prayers with about 1,000 Muslims at the Penang State Mosque. The sacrificial slaughter of 11 cows and four goats was held at the mosque compound.
In Perlis, Raja Muda Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, attended Aidiladha prayers with the people at the Al-Hussain Floating Mosque.
They were greeted upon arrival by Universiti Malaysia Perlis vice-chancellor Prof Kamarudin Hussin, who is the mosque committee chairperson, and imam Ustaz Muhammad Najdi Mohd Noor as well as mosque officials.
In Kuantan, more than 2,000 Muslims attended Aidiladha prayers at Sultan Ahmad Shah 1 Mosque. The prayers were led by Imam 1 Mohd Khalil Mohd Zari Al-Hafiz.
In his sermon, Mohd Khalil reminded Muslims to be united in spite of different political ideologies.
In Shah Alam, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah attended Aidiladha prayers along with over 2,000 people at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque in Bukit Jelutong.
He arrived at the mosque about 8am accompanied by Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali; State Secretary Mohamed Khusrin Munawi, Selangor Mufti Mohd Tamyes Abd Wahid and the Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairperson Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa.
