The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of low visibility of less than five kilometres in six states, which is expected to persist until Monday.

According to a statement from the department today, the low visibility will prevail in the waters off Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang, and Sarawak.

"Such situation is dangerous to ships which do not have proper navigation systems," it said.

Thunderstorms are also predicted over the waters off Sarawak, namely Mukah, Bintulu and Miri, as well as in the Federal Territory of Labuan and Sabah that is in the interior and west coast, which are expected to continue until early Friday evening.

It said this can cause strong winds of up to 50kph and rough seas with waves up to 3.5 metres, which are dangerous to small boats.
