Lawyer Matthias Chang will be questioned by the police tomorrow and he believes he may suffer the same fate as his client, former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan.

Chang told Malaysiakini he had been asked to give his statement to the investigating officer in charge of Khairuddin's case at Bukit Aman police headquarters.

"I believe thereafter I will be arrested on the same grounds as Khairuddin ... but I do not fear arrest," he said.

Khairuddin is currently being detained for 28 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act for allegedly sabotaging the country, an offence under sections 124K and 124L of the Penal Code.

This is in relation to police reports he lodged in Switzerland , France , United Kingdom , Singapore , and Hong Kong on the 1MDB scandal.

He was initially arrested under section 124C of the Penal Code for allegedly attempting to commit activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Chang, who is former political secretary of then premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had accompanied Khairuddin to make the overseas reports.

Both were barred from leaving the country on Sept 18. They were to go to United States reportedly to meet with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Chang has earlier described the use of Sosma against Khairuddin as a form of intimidation and an abuse of police powers.

Hit by dengue fever

Meanwhile on another matter, Chang said Khairuddin has been confirmed to have come down with dengue fever.

"I saw him in the hospital today. He is weak, but his spirit is still strong," the lawyer said.

The former Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief was hospitalised yesterday suffering from high fever, and was not allowed any visitors until today.

Khairuddin said that his multiple police reports on 1MDB were to hold Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak accountable for his alleged wrongdoings.

Najib, who is head of the advisory board of 1MDB, has denied using the sovereign wealth fund's money for his personal gain.

He has also said that there is an international plot to topple him.
