Khir Toyo gets 12-month prison sentence
Res Ipsa:
Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo got no less than what he deserved as well as the simultaneous confiscation of his property.
Let's hope the rest of the crooked politicians in town sit up and take note that crime does not pay and that you reap what you sow. It's just a matter of time before the law catches up with you.
By the way, the inmates and prison staff at Kajang could do with some free dental consultation and treatment over the next one year, which offer some elements of repentance or redemption to Khir.
Rick Teo: One year custodial sentence for corruption to the tune of RM5 million is laughable.
For former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to receive five years for sodomy, the sentence for Khir is a walk in the park. Justice is really blind, or there is something wrong with our judiciary.
1malaysia2perak3katak: Why no application to increase jail time by the prosecution? Ten years for stealing rice and sardines to feed family, but only one year for corruption involving millions.
Gggg: The sentence will not be exactly one year. Khir is entitled to remission of one-third of his sentence.
So he will be only serving eight months unless he falls sick. He would then be hospitalised, which will be deducted from the eight months.
I hope he is fit to serve the sentence considering his recent collapse after jogging. I think his biggest mistake was losing Selangor to Pakatan Rakyat. Umno will not show him any mercy.
Even if I work 24/7 for 10 years, I would never able to own a quarter of his mansion.
KO: Khir might probably be out by next Raya for good conduct in treating all the inmates' dental issues.
He might even set up a dental practice in the hospital wing, if there is such a thing. Well at least he is inside. It’s better than nothing.
Dont Just Talk: Khir gave brooms to district officers but forgot that his backyard is equally dirty. He was lucky to get off with only 12 months, when a youth got a stiffer jail term for stealing sardines and rice.
Evensteven: 12 months only? Still, it will gladden the hearts of broom awardees.
Headhunter: Someone should give him a broom, to keep his cell clean.
Anonymous #523894157: Just wondering, how many months in jail for corruption of RM2.6 billion?
RM2.6billion Duit Haram: He gets one year for a few million ringgit. If it was RM2.6 billion, perhaps jail for life.
Well Thats Fantastic: To be fair it isn't just one year, he also lost any legitimate money he put into his massive property, that is now government property.
I am happy he wasn't able to use his position to escape punishment altogether.
CQ Muar: Anwar was sentenced to five years for 'sodomy', and a hungry and broken Indian boy who stole foodstuff to stay alive was sentenced to 10 years.
Where is justice when Khir Toyo got only one year? Is our legal system inclined to discriminate?
Frankiepo: Can someone hook me up? I don't mind two million ringgit in exchange for a year's jail time. Outside of jail, I can't make that in my lifetime.
NewMalaysia: Happy holidays to Khir. I hope he enjoys his new mansion behind bars.
Double shock for Khir Toyo's defence team
Vent: Khir’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, we the people of Malaysia were just as "shocked" by the guilty verdict against Anwar and "doubly shocked" by his incarceration.
We were even more "shocked" by your reprehensible remarks about Anwar after the verdict. And I’m not even an Anwar supporter.
James_3392: Shafee, I am shocked he was given only one year in jail for corruption involving such a big amount. Ten years should better fit the crime.
Rupert16: If Shafee is smart enough, he should have argued the case as a "donation".
After all, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has already endorsed the RM2.6 billion in PM Najib Razak's bank account as ‘donation’ when everybody knows it is probably corruption of the highest order.
Anonymous 122461436161429: A man in high public office stole and abused his powers to profit himself. He was arrested and charged, found guilty, and sent to prison.
The only thing worth commenting is we hope the same justice is used against other Umno-BN leaders.
