'Jamal's call for Kajang rally to divert attention from real issues'
Kajang assemblyperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has rubbished the Malay NGO leader Jamal Md Yunos’ call for a protest in her constituency as merely a diversionary tactic.
Not only that it would not solve anything, it also does not address the issues affecting the country, she told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
“It doesn’t solve any problems for them to rally there. I think it is a diversionary tactic from the real problems.
“Talk about haze, about 1MDB, about our economy and our plummeting ringgit, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, and about why our prime minister is getting negative publicity (instead),” she said.
To a question whether Jamal ( photo ) should hold his rally at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s constituency in Pekan instead, Azizah curtly replied, “It’s hazy”, referring to the poor air quality.
Previously, Jamal who was also one of the key players in the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu rally on Sept 16, had said that his next big rally would be in Kajang.
He claimed that this was because Azizah had not fulfilled her election pledges, with woes such as floods, traffic congestion and poor waste collection affecting her constituents.
“I have on three occasions met with Kajang, comprising of Malay, Chinese and Indians, who claimed they had previously supported Wan Azizah but have since felt they were cheated, and were disappointed with her,” he was quoted as saying in a New Straits Times report on Sept 28.
He added that he would announce the details of the rally during an Oct 11 press conference.
No invitation to join PAS rally
On a another matter, Parti Amanah Negara deputy president Salahudin Ayub ( photo ) said Pakatan Harapan has yet to receive any invitation to join the Himpunan 60 Ribu (H60K) rally being organised by PAS in Kota Bharu.
To a question whether the coalition would join the rally, he said the coalition would look into the rally’s objectives first before deciding.
“We participated in the Bersih rally because its issues and objectives are clear. We didn’t go for the red shirt rally (Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu) but its objectives are also clear.
“So we are very objective. We will see first what the objective of the program is,” said the former PAS vice-president.
The rally slated to be held at Stadium Sultan Muhamad IV in Kota Bharu on Oct 17, which its director Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said is to rally grassroots support for PAS.
