Ministry to decide on replacement of school days
The Education Ministry will decide whether schools that closed due to haze need to replace their school days, said Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan.
“There are two things to be considered, whether it was a holiday or schools were instructed to be closed. If it was a holiday it needs to be replaced, if instructed to be closed than the school days may not be replaced.
“However, I have informed the Education Minister, Mahdzir Khalid, who will issue a statement on this matter soon,” he told reporters after closing the 2015 National Robotics Competition at Universiti Sains Malaysia in George Town today.
Several schools in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor and Sarawak had to be closed following Air Pollutants Index (API) readings reaching the unhealthy level.
On the robotics competition, Kamalanathan said the competition aims to promote invention and innovation-based education to primary school pupils and secondary school students.
The competition was organised by the Penang Education Department with 176 teams participating from all over the country. The overall champions, from Sarawak, will represent Malaysia at the 2015 World Robotic Olympiad tournament in Doha, Qatar, from Nov 6 to 8.
