Pahang DAP will hold back from suing the state mufti and Islamic department on an anti-DAP sermon.

Instead, Pahang DAP chairperson Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puri said today they would seek to resolve the matter through a dialogue with mufti Abdul Rahman Osman first.

"I will make an appointment with the Pahang Mufti Department to resolve this mess through a dialogue and with explanations from both sides," he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Tengku Zulpuri ( photo ) said he expects to have the meeting by next week and will only decide whether to take legal action after that.

This is in regard to a Hari Raya Aidiladha sermon in Pahang recently that condemned DAP as anti-Islam.

Pahang DAP had previously said it would take legal action if the mufti department does not apologise.

However, Abdul Rahman has refused to say sorry.

'Hidden hands behind the issue'

Asked what the next step would be if the Pahang mufti refuses to meet DAP, Tengku Zulpuri said he will hold another press conference on that next week.

Meanwhile, the Pahang DAP chief believes there might be hidden hands behind this issue.

"We don't reject the possibility that there is a plot by certain quarters who want to pressure Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration on religious matters.

"This is to reduce DAP's focus on national issues," Tengku Zulpuri said.
