All schools in Langkawi to close for another day

All schools in Langkawi will be closed for another day tomorrow as the Air Pollutant Index (API) remains at unhealthy level.

Langkawi District Education Officer Marzuki Daud, who issued the directive today, said the choking haze in the district had yet to show any positive improvement.

The directive will involve students in 21 primary schools, seven secondary schools, Langkawi Mara Junior Science College, Langkawi branch of Maktab Mahmud and a private school.

All schools in peninsular Malaysia except Kelantan were ordered closed for two days from last Monday due to the worsening haze.

As at 4pm today, the API reading in Langkawi was 161.

An API of between 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).
