The need for opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to have discussions with PAS to obtain its support for a no confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak does not arise.

PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said this was because everyone is in the loop, regardless of whether discussions have been held formally or otherwise.

“Generally, all the MPs know about it (the vote of no-confidence against Najib), through news reports and the social media. Of course, the matter is being discussed, be it formally or not,” Shamsul told Malaysiakini .

The Bukit Katil MP said this in response to PAS asking that further discussions be held with regard to the no confidence vote.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan was quoted on Wednesday as saying the party would only support the no confidence vote if Wan Azizah holds a meeting on the matter.

Takiyuddin said PAS is open to discussing the matter but it must be done in a detailed manner.

Shamsul said usually, opposition MPs would meet to discuss such matters before Parliament begins.

“When something is to be done in Parliament, it is certain that the opposition will call in all opposition MPs to discuss the matter.

“The least is that representatives from PAS, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and DAP will discuss the matter in detail."

Insufficient MPs

Shamsul said he is also confident that Wan Azizah has her own formula in executing the plan, especially since the opposition already has its own qualified candidate to replace Najib.

“Of course everything will be discussed... the scenarios, as well as what happens after the move if it either succeeds or fails,” he added.

It was reported that Wan Azizah intends to file a motion of no confidence against Najib in the coming parliamentary session, which begins on Oct 19.

DAP has announced that it will support the motion.

However, with only 88 MPs, the opposition does not have the majority to push it through successfully.

Without PAS, the new coalition Pakatan Harapan only has 72 MPs.
