Elected representatives who are members of Parti Amanah Negara will not be quitting their seats although they won them in 2008 and 2013 under PAS ticket.

Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Changkat Jering assemblyperson Nizar Jamaluddin urged Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria, who made the call for the duo to resign, to ask PAS elected reps to do it instead.

Mujahid said Razman ( photo ) has no idea what he was talking about as Pakatan Rakyat, which was formed by DAP, PAS and PKR, in 2008, is officially, dead .

Mujahid said Amanah was set up and launched on Sept 16 to give life to the opposition coalition which then formed Pakatan Harapan.

A Pakatan Harapan government was then launched in Penang on Sept 23.

"Razman should question the PAS representatives who are not friendly with Pakatan Harapan because they have refused to join the new opposition pact," Mujahid told Malaysiakini , in a Whatsapp message from Turkey.

"The PAS representatives should realise that they had won their seats in the last two national polls because of the Pakatan Rakyat pact. They should honour their voters," he added.

"Amanah representatives are honouring the people's vote, why should we step down?" he queried.

"Razman should be brave enough to debate with Amanah in public about this instead of misguiding others with his narrow-minded thinking," stresed Mujahid, who is Amanah vice-president.

Razman was quoted in Bernama as saying that under PAS constitution, membership in the party would cease and they must vacate or step down as elected representatives if they joined another party, declared leaving the party or were sacked.

He added that the Amanah MPs and assemblypersons had previously signed an agreement with the Perak PAS and central liaison bodies that if they switched party or left the party, they should vacate or resign as elected representatives of the seats they had won.

Razman viewed Mujahid and Nizar's action as without integrity when holding a post entrusted to them, Bernama reported yesterday.

Amanah reps will not give up seats

Meanwhile, Nizar said it is PAS assemblypersons who should vacate their seats for betraying Pakatan Rakyat.

"PAS betrayed the opposition pact when the party passed a resolution to cut ties with DAP, leading to the break up of Pakatan Rakyat," said the former Perak Menteri Besar.

PAS had then decided to do so following DAP's decision to sever ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for his decision to table a private members bill on hudud in Parliament last year.

"Even the late PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan MB Nik Aziz Nik Mat ( photo ) defended Pakatan Rakyat and will not accept this kind of betrayal," Nizar said.

"I will not be giving up my seat as I won the Changkat Jering constituency under the Pakatan Rakyat flagship," he added.

Nizar said Changkat Jering had only 900 PAS members but he won the seat because voters supported Pakatan Rakyat.

Nizar added he was no longer a PAS member, so the party should not be telling him what to do.

He stressed that the contract agreement does not apply in this case as it was PAS who has betrayed the opposition struggle.

"They can keep pressuring us but it won't work. We're not quitting".
