Abusive motorists not DAP members, says party
The DAP has denied that the two men who verbally abused three Penang Island City Council officers for clamping their car were members of the party's Kampung Kolam branch.
The incident occurred along Jalan Campbell on Oct 7 and the two men, who behaved rudely to the officers, have been remanded for three days since yesterday pending investigations.
DAP Kampung Kolam branch chief Teoh Teik Guan said today two Facebook pages belonging to Selangorian Forum and MCA local leader Tan Khai Beng have accused the duo of being DAP members.
Teoh said the Chinese language Selangorian Forum alleged that since the two men were DAP members from Kampung Kolam, they behaved 'audaciously' as they were backed by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Tan's Facebook page posted a video featuring George Town OCPD Mior Faridalatrash Wahid saying that the duo were confirmed to be DAP members from the Tanjong Kampung Kolam division.
"We challenged them, especially Tan to show proof within seven days that the duo are DAP members," Teoh said in a press conference today.
"Tan did not only accuse but tried to drag in the OCPD into this issue but the latter has denied making the statement," Teoh added.
Teoh said the party was still in the process of tracking down the administrator of Selangorian Forum.
If the two Facebook pages cannot prove their claims within seven days, Teoh urged them to retract their statement and apologise or face legal action,
He stressed that the apology should be published not only on their Facebook pages but also through the media.
Teoh then praised the three female officers for their carrying out their duties professionally in the face of threats from the two men.
Increase parking bays
"They are role models to other civil servants.
"Other than the RM200 incentive given by the state government to the officers, we would like to propose that MBPP or the Penang govenrment to set up an 'outstanding performance award' to recognise and reward those who become role model for others," Teoh said.
"We believe there are more officers who also perform well and by giving out this award, it will encourage civil servants to be more responsible and this will attract people to join the MBPP and other government agencies," Teoh added.
Teoh also proposed that the local and state governments increase the parking bays in town.
He urged the authorities to carry out an in-depth study on how private property owners can use their vacant land as parking lots.
"With that, businesspeople and tourists who visit Georgetown will find it easier to find parking spaces".
