PAS to PM: Clock's ticking, two months left to sort out 1MDB
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak needs to resolve the 1MDB issue in the next two months, or resign as finance minister, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.
This is based on Najib’s promise on June 14 that the state investment firm’s multi-billion ringgit debt problems will sorted out in six months.
“If the issue is not resolved in the next two months, the prime minister should promise to let go of his finance minister post, or step down as chairperson of 1MDB board of advisors,” he said in a statement.
Tuan Ibrahim’s statement comes after BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the government
needs time
til January to solve the issue.
Abdul Rahman said the government agrees with the Conference of Rulers that the 1MDB probe must be wrapped up.
However, he said, no one wants to give 1MDB and the government time to sort out the issues.
Several ministers have responded to the Conference of Rulers rare decree calling for the 1MDB probe to be wrapped up, and wrongdoers, if any, to be punished.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said no one can rush or delay the 1MDB probe, as it must be guided by law.
However, Najib (photo) has been silent on the matter.
Tuan Ibrahim said Najib should at least respond as a matter of courtesy, instead of resorting to his “defeaning silence”.
