Work with Dr M and Co to save M'sia, Pakatan Harapan told

P Dev Anand Pillai: The bottom line is that the great revered leader of the Malays is the one who started the rot by dismantling the entire system of checks and balances.

Now the dismantler has realised his folly and the consequences of seeing younger leaders wantonly abusing power according to their whims and fancies has become too much to bear.

Cooperation with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be conditional that upon removal of the current administration, an immediate general election be held and all agencies of checks and balances be restored under the watchful eye of Parliament and a public ombudsman office made up of trustworthy Malaysians.

Patriot1: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang mooted this idea some time ago but was not taken seriously. Right now, the mission is to save the country.

Let's put our differences aside and form a unity government with proper checks and balances in place to put the country on a firmer footing.

Trueglitter: Inevitably inspired and staunchly motivated by the wise saying, "today's procrastination is tomorrow's regret", the timing and planning for a launch of a conclusive and meaningful assault on PM Najib Abdul Razak's administration could never have been better than now, given the highly interesting manifestation of a consensual get-together of the once feuding ex-PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah along with other prominent former ministers.

Clearly, the frustrations cum anguished cries of the despairing fair-minded rakyat have long been but cries in the wilderness, in the face of the tyrannical Najib who has relentlessly and contemptuously engaged the various institutions of government and its biased agencies, to mercilessly persecute and incarcerate righteous dissidents.

For the sake of national unity and racial harmony, all mindful observers should take a leaf from their noble endeavour to save the nation and not to allow ourselves to fault any of them for their past imperfections.

Wong Fei Hoong: Forget the idea of teaming up. Pakatan Harapan must go all out to defeat BN. All these ex-Umno guys have their own hidden agenda.

Vent: How much 'harapan' can we have that Mahathir will not repeat the political tyranny that was his legacy when he ruled the country for 22 years previously?

Try whistling in the wind. This is a takeover plan by a group of has-beens and wannabes. They will take away the wind beneath your wings and out of your sails, and capsize your boat and leave you stranded. You won't have to wait for them to take your thunder away. Think.

Hussein: Save the country first, then deal with the rest of the issues. Let's refrain from being too emotional.

Hamzah Paiman: Conditional cooperation would have to include the commitment to safeguarding the independence of all the national institutions, branches of administration, and respect of rule of law.

This is to safeguard the people from dictators and draconian laws. If these assurances can be signed through a MOU (memorandum of understanding), Mahathir should be given all the support.

Anonymous_1377321471: It’s okay with the following conditions: (1) All governing principles and policies shall be based on what was agreed in the Merdeka Declaration. All rakyat shall be treated as equal. No more bumiputera status or quota system; (2) Secular governance; (3) Dilution and separation of powers; (4) You can keep Malay rulers and the prime minister's post for Malays, but he or she shall speak for all Malaysians and not being a tribal PM as it is now; (5) Meritocracy in all government dealings including education, except for the hardcore poor in rural areas in all states.

With these foundations for nation building, the rebirth of a united nation as Malaysia once was will be a natural outcome.

BumiKita: Bear in mind that Mahathir has said he still wants BN to stay but not the premier. To us, who do not want BN ruling anymore, removing the premier is not a solution. It's time for BN to go.

Ipoh PP: As long as the Malays don't stand up and get rid of corruption even if they have been sprinkled with 'donation' money, the country will slowly breathe its last.

The Chinese and Indians can only be bystanders but the Malays/bumiputeras, being the majority, will be needed to save Malaysia.

The Analyser: Ipoh PP, instead of "working with the devil" might I suggest you start working with the people of Malaysia.

Because it's them that will make the changes, not you, not Pakatan Harapan with or without Mahathir, not PAS nor anyone else in the political arena at this time.

Yes, I know it means you have to accept that you might possibly be wrong and that you will have to acknowledge other people's opinions gracefully. But that's what democracy is about and it’s the only way Malaysia will ever overcome Umno.

With the people of Malaysia behind you, you won't need any of these fools who presently think they have what it takes to run the country.

It's clear that the Pakatan Harapan nucleus and its supporters can think no further ahead than getting rid of Najib.

If that's your goal in life, then be prepared to deal with the crap that follows. If you could only see past the end of your own inflated egos you would realise that Pakatan Harapan or the whole nation haven't a "snowball's chance in hell" of getting rid of Najib.

Are you so deluded by your own opinions of yourselves as to think that is possible? You should have taken a little more notice of that man from Singapore, Bilahari Kausikan .

Burong Merah: What's presently happening in Malaysia is just like a drama; bad man vs good man. The present government is the bad man of course. Just close your eyes and think what the whole world thinks of Malaysia.

We have the police, Attorney-General's Chambers, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) - many powerful agencies, and also the royalty. Yet Malaysia can't deal with a few bad men. Something is indeed very wrong with Malaysia.

Nehru: Why should Pakatan Harapan save Umno from Najib? They will still replace Najib with another of their gang anyway. Will the new PM be worse than Najib?

Will he abolish the Sedition Act, Sosma, place righteous people in authority and judiciary? Will he release Anwar Ibrahim and charge those who fabricated and convicted him?

Will the new PM form a committee and get to charge all those who were derelict in their duties like the attorney-general, courts, MACC, police, etc?

Swipenter: Give me a good reason why we should work with Mahathir just to save the Umno-BN axis?

The mess we are in today is largely due to the political expediencies Mahathir adopted during his 22 years in office.

Look at Umno's political hegemony, massive corruption, abuse of powers, bastardisation of all our once independent and democratic institutions, religious intolerance, institutionalised racism and growing social injustice.

We need to change the existing corrupt and repressive political system; not just changing the premier and nothing else. Deep reforms are needed to save Bolehland from ruins.
