'Toll hikes due to outrageously stupid agreements’

Anonymous_1401773638: It is the responsibility of the civil servants and the elected ministers to protect the public.

The fact that they have failed to do so verges on criminal, as no person would give such a generous payment without any benefits.

I pray that when there is a change in ethics and morality in this country, all those who are involved, whether civil servants or ministers together with the concessionaires would be brought to justice and made to pay for their failures.

Wira: On the contrary, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, the BN government signed very smart agreements which made Umno and its leaders very rich. They are also very smart in making rural Malaysia stupid.

The government's reluctance to pay them off speaks volumes. It just shows the government is in cahoots with the toll operators and pulling 'wool over our eyes'.

Daily they fleece us with the Goods and Services Tax (GST), tolls and the like and throw back some 'crumbs' in the form of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M).

The day this government is brought down, all of them should be brought to book and spend time in 'bamboo river' (Sungai Buloh Prison).

LKT: Urban Malaysians have by and large rejected BN a long time ago. Why BN (more accurately Umno) is still able to form the government is because the rural folks have been 'jampi' (under the spell) by the sweet-talking thieves, liars and conmen from BN.

The fact that the rural folks and some urban fools have been stuck in a rut for so long since independence is no big surprise.

I would not be surprised if one of the strategies of Umno is to 'korek' from the anti-Umno/BN urban Malaysians to pay for BN's support of the rural Malaysians during elections.

The day the rural Malaysians wake up from the Umno/BN 'jampi', Malaysia will begin its journey to true prosperity.

Vijay47: For a stakeholder with a hefty 49 percent of the shares (of the highway concessionaire Cerah Sama Sdn Bhd), how did the government end up being led by the nose by another slightly bigger shareholder of the company?

Ironically, this reminds us of the general election's 53-47 percent results, where the public again got conned.

The government would never agree to buying over Cerah Sama and it will come out with a million or even billion excuses. They have grown too accustomed to the goose that lays the diamond eggs.

So, will the government do it? That is a million-dollar question begging for an answer.

Perhaps the amount is too small for the government to consider, because it is used to dealing in billions.

Oh Ya?: The PKR Selangor government is equally guilty of abetting the milking of the rakyat by the ruling elite and their cronies.

Other than their shareholding in these concessions that were inherited from the previous Umno state government, they have also approved the construction of toll roads approved under former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's and Prime Minister Najib Razak's administrations without scrutinising the terms and conditions of these lopsided agreements.

They have not provided the checks and balance and have failed to protect the interests of the very rakyat who had voted for them. Shouldn't Selcat (Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency), which has been dormant, investigate into this?

Urkidding: BN Backbencher Council deputy chairperson Bung Moktar Radin has a low IQ. He is naïve and insensitive to the sentiments of the people.

He should ask himself, why has BN lost their urban seats? City folks well-educated, affluent and independent. So please do not insult our intelligence with all the blame game.

If you are unable to demonstrate your ability to win their votes, it is your own fault, your non-performance, your weakness, and that of your government.

Funny 1M: Bung, be reminded the urban folks are the ones paying the bulk of the taxes.

Fateh: The urban voters are generally well-informed and exposed to the world, unlike the kampung folks, who are generally naive, ignorant and sheltered.

The revolt will only come when the kampung folks find themselves not having sufficient income to feed themselves, but by then, this country would be completely beyond redemption.
