PARLIAMENT The Public Accounts Committee's findings on its investigations will not be trusted if the committee is politicised, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said today.

"The PAC should not be politicised because it is tasked with finding the truth.

"But because the PAC is politicised by political parties, whatever findings it makes will be questioned," she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

She said this when wrapping up the debate on a motion to appoint Rompin MP Hasan Arifin as the new PAC chief.

The motion was approved by the House with a voice vote.

Azalina said the motion proved that the government was not afraid of any probe by the PAC.

She also said the PAC members are expected to be highly responsible.

"When someone is appointed to the PAC, they have to priotise their duties as a committee member," she said.

The PAC is currently probing 1MDB. However, its investigations ground to a halt after four of the committee's members, including then PAC chief Nur Jazlan Mohamd, were made ministers and deputy ministers.

Is PAC 'brave enough?'

In a new development, the Council of Rulers decreed that probes into the debt-riddled sovereign wealth fund should be wrapped up as soon as possible,

Picking up on this, Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) dared the PAC to take up this challenge while debating the motion.

"Is the PAC brave enough to carry out the sultans' decree? Are they are brave enough to uncover (the 1MDB scandal) to find out who is responsible, even if it is Jho Low or someone higher up? Is the PAC brave enough to take action against them?" he asked.

He said if the PAC does not carry out its duty, then they would have betrayed the people's trust in them.
