The Kedah Health Department has started investigations into an allegation that a piece of gauze was left in the vagina of a woman who had given birth at Sungai Petani Hospital on Sept 29.

Its director, Dr Norhizan Ismail said the department would be calling all parties involved to obtain a clearer view of the matter.

"The department had opened an enquiry. This included calling all parties involved to explain and discuss the issue," he said in a statement today.

Recently, a woman, Norsyazwani Mohd Nasirudin, 25, alleged a piece of gauze came out of her private part three days after giving birth at the hospital.

Her husband, Mohd Shahid Azim Mohd Saufi, 25, said a police report had been lodged on the incident, and they will take legal action against the hospital.
