PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan insists that his party president Abdul Hadi Awang supports the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak 'in principle'.

This was despite Abdul Hadi stating on Sunday after a rally in Kota Baru that PAS would 'wait and see what is the rationale' of the no-confidence vote.

Takiyuddin said the 'wait and see' referred to whether the no-confidence motion would actually be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat.

"In principle, we agree […] the president also agrees as it is a democratic process in Parliament. That we agree on.

"If we want to support, we need to see whether it comes up (in the House)," he told Malaysiakini when met at the Parliament lobby today

As such, Takiyuddin said there was no contradiction between him and the party president, Hadi (photo) .

"There is no contradiction. The president said we will see first. I said the same because we have yet to see the actual motion and its rationale," he said.

Takiyuddin had at the same Kota Baru rally told journalists that PAS was prepared to back the no-confidence motion.

He added that PAS in principle was also prepared to support the no-confidence motion that was already submitted by PKR's Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian.

No specific discussions

Hee, however, is in the midst of retracting the motion to allow Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to re-submit the motion as the opposition believes it would carry more weight due to her position as opposition leader.

"If it happens (tabled in Parliament), we will make a decision together. We are in the opposition and the opposition will support the opposition," Takiyuddin said.

However, Takiyuddin said, to date, there had yet to be any specific discussions with Wan Azizah over the no-confidence motion against Najib.
