State assemblyperson for Wakaf Baru Ahmad Yakob will not relinquish his position as Kelantan menteri besar although the ‘hudud’ law has yet to be implemented in the state this year.
Ahmad, who is also PAS deputy spiritual leader, said his responsibility to make preparations for hudud and to bring the matter up to the highest level had been completed.
“The matter (on the resignation) arises when we cannot make preparation. Now we have completed everything. The amendment (Syariah Criminal Code II (Amendment 2015) at the state legislative assembly) had been made, (has been) completed.
“What is obstructing (the implementation of hudud) is because we could not make the amendment to Act 355 Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) 1965. That is not our responsibility, so my part is completed,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the launching of the Syariah Criminal Code II (Amendment 2015) Promotion and the Kelantan Youth Gathering in conjunction with Hududullah Day Celebration at the grounds of Stadium Sultan Muhammad ke-IV in Kota Baru today.
Ahmad was commenting on the pledge he made at the state assembly sitting last year that he was willing to relinquish his post as the menteri besar if he still failed to implement the hudud in Kelantan this year.
