A singer of a renowned music band in the late 90s was detained by the police for possession of an imitation pistol in Sentul early today.

The black firearm bearing the words, ‘Walther CP99 Compact’ was seized from the 36-year-old suspect in Kampung Chubadak while he was cruising in a Proton Gen 2 in a suspicious manner.

Sentul police chief ACP R Munusamy said a team of policemen from the district crime prevention branch found the pistol on the driver’s seat.

“Initial investigations revealed the suspect had a criminal record for a drug case in 2004.

“The suspect was remanded for a day and will be investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960," he said when contacted by Bernama in Kuala Lumpur.
