The opposition will file a motion to review the suspension of Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang.

Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said the challenge will be on whether proper procedure was followed.

"Our view is that what happened today was against the Standing Orders," Gobind said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

He said any move to suspend Lim should have been done with Section 80A of the Standing Orders, which provides for lawmakers to face the Committee of Privileges before the suspension is decided.

"The reason 80A exists is the Rules Committee wants to give MPs who are threatened with suspension, to be referred to a committee so that evidence can be taken to decide if the MP is guilty in the first place," Gobind ( photo ) said.

The DAP legal bureau chief argued that as such, Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia was wrong to say that Standing Order 27(3) allows for the suspension motion to be debated is wrong.

"The interpretation or view of the speaker that Standing Order 27(3) allows a complaint of this nature to be taken straight to the Dewan Rakyat is wrong," he said.

He added, the motion to review the decision would be discussed among all opposition parties, including PAS.

Lim was suspended after a bloc vote showed 107 MPs in favour of suspending him, with 77 against.

The Gelang Patah MP was suspended for allegedly insulting Pandikar by questioning his authority and accusing the speaker of derailing the Public Accounts Committee investigation into 1MDB.
