Budget 2016 was designed to save Prime Minister Najib Razak's political career, said Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan).

Met at Parliament, Lim said the budget only offered some goodies which in turn only offered temporary solutions which fail address core problems facing the the country.

"This is meant to save himself but whether it can save the country, I don't think so," he said.

"This is not going to save our currency from continuously plunging.

"Despite the goodies offered to the rakyat, the rakyat will still suffer from the Goods and Services tax (GST) in the end," said Lim (photo).

Concurring with this, Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) said the budget will not help restore the public confidence in the government despite the all the statistics and figures provided.

"And I did not see him addressing the few scandals the nation is facing," he said.

Pointing out the huge allocation for the Prime Minister's Department, he said this expense should be reduced.

"We are talking about a seven percent of the total budget that will be allocated to the Prime Minister's Department," he said.

'Thank you, prime minister'

Fadillah Yusof (BN-Petra Jaya), however, described the budget as the best ever for Sabahans.

"This is the best budget for Sabah. Thank you, prime minister," he enthused.

Fadillah (photo) , who is also the works minister, in particular welcome d the 1,090km toll-free Pan Borneo Highway to East Malaysia.

This is because the Pan Borneo Highway would be a federal road in East Malaysia similar to federal roads in Peninsular Malaysia which were toll-free too, he said.

"This is part of the BN manifesto (for last general election)," he pointed out.
