Mahathir concedes Najib will stay in power until 2018

FellowMalaysian: So it has finally dawned on this old warrior, Dr Mahathir Mohamad - the great defender in his lifetime, espousal of the Malay race and Umno - that the leader whom he had had so much confidence in once before, has now morphed into an unmanageable beast to the extent that he has apparently conceded defeat in his battle to remove him.

A 90-year-old man, even if his spirit is still burning bright, could only do so much as his aged body would allow. But don't be misled by this sly fox. He has not given up hope or effort entirely, but has only admitted that it will be a long, hard battle to dislodge Najib Abdul Razak.

Mahathir has acknowledged that he had seriously underestimated the might and influence of Najib and what he thought would be just another overnight affair has now become a long-drawn battle which will likely last till the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018.

Let’s just hope that his flame in Umno still burns bright and strong by then.

RM2.6Billion Duit Haram: Taking care of self-interest has been the norm since your time, Mahathir. Only Najib has fine-tuned the art of doing it. And, on top of that, Najib has groomed all his ministers and Umno leaders to be his disciples.

Umno leaders are not actually afraid to go against Najib. But how to speak up, when their mouths are stuffed with million ringgit notes, compliments from Najib's alleged RM2.6 billion windfall?

Doc: Now Najib can peacefully focus on his ‘ plan ’ to destroy Malaysia's fragile economy, rip apart the fabric of Malaysia's social structure, promote extreme ‘stupidity’ at all levels of the government, receive more donations, indulge in luxury travel and international shopping trips, replace the current judiciary system with Umno-style judiciary, enrich his cronies, implement more hardship measures on the rakyat and come 2018 just before the elections, switch Malaysia's democracy to a dictatorial style of government.

All this, a big thank you to Dr M for insisting that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (Pak Lah) be replaced and implementing the groundwork during his tenure as PM that Najib built upon to be a successful dictator.

Swipenter: If it is just about Umno, Mahathir does not have my support. I don't see why Umno should continue indefinitely to lead the country.

Don't we have enough of racism, religious bigotry, corruption, nepotism, cronyism and bad governance threatening the very foundation of Bolehland since the 1970s under the Umno-led government?

If Mahathir is thrown into the slammer by the present regime he so lovingly nurtured for 22 years, then that is poetic justice for a man who played a major role in destroying good governance and good race relations in Bolehland.

The country’s first PM Tunku Abdul Rahman once said that Mahathir was the man who was going to destroy the country. How prophetic!

Dingy: Let Najib lead BN to defeat in GE14. However, at what cost to the nation? To Najib, cash is king. That's exactly what he will do to win GE14.

We can expect tens of billions of ringgit to be spent in the run-up to GE14. Would the ‘Arab donor’ donate more billions to him to ensure he remains in power?

Dr M was in power for 22 years. So could Najib.

CQ Muar: So now with Mahathir finally conceding defeat, Najib will be enjoying the last laugh, and continue with his brash showmanship.

Najib will be enjoying all those billions he allegedly successfully plundered, and pride himself on how he can get away with it.

Send In The Clowns: Dr M, even the great Roman Empire fell. If there is a will, there is a way.

Fifty-three percent of the voters were not with this PM. Keep on knocking at the evil door, and eventually it will collapse.

Najib to continue as PM till 2018? Sigh - what is, is!

Kangkung: Mahathir, thanks to the foundation you have laid - such as curtailing the powers of the courts, removing the independence of institutions with the power to prosecute, etc - you have created the perfect platform for a tyrant to stay in power for eternity.

No, Najib will not only survive until 2018 but he will serve as long as you have, thanks to the tools you made available to him.

Gen2indian: It was this old man who had laid the foundations of the mess we are in now. Yes, Najib will remain PM for eternity as all checks and balances have been removed.

Enjoy, Mahathir, enjoy the mess you are wholly liable for.

The Analyser: The old man must be a Malaysian. Reluctantly he admits defeat, but in the process passes the blame onto the Umno lawmakers.
